Bora Vadiar Equitable Sliding Scale Model
(for monthly contributions for classes & registration to events)

Contributions for classes within Coletivo Bora Vadiar is based on an Equitable Sliding Scale Model, embracing accessibility to capoeira classes and events within the Coletivo Bora Vadiar.
The model attempts to make classes & events inclusive to all individuals, while making sure we realistically support a financially sustainable school. It acknowledges our vastly different relationships and access to financial resources and tells us we don’t “earn” our access to training by trading a specific dollar amount.
Please see more information below on the model we use.

What are these TIERS defined by?

We are inviting each person to take inventory of their financial resources and look deeper at their levels of privilege or systemic barriers. This is a way to challenge the classist and capitalistic society we live in and work towards economic justice as a community. The goal is to create an organization where everyone is able to fully participate, the organizers are compensated fairly and the costs are being paid on time.

Besides being based on the understanding and awareness of one's privileges, social identities and systemic oppressions, an equitable sliding scale is also rooted in trust and compassion. Each person within this system is encouraged to honor their own financial and health needs, which no one else can accurately measure. They are asked to choose their contribution plan not only with compassion for others, but compassion for themselves.

The Coletivo Bora Vadiar bases the Equitable Sliding Scale on the Wheel of Power and Privilege by Sylvia Duckworth and the Web of Oppression by James R. Vanderwoerd.
We also have a scholarship program! Please contact Dinguêra for more information.

Here are some guidelines to help you choose the contribution that best fits you.

If you have any questions or concerns regarding this model, please reach out to Dinguêra (801) 608-8217 and she'll be more than happy to explain it a bit further.
Additionally, we highly recommend that you study more about power, privilege, systemic oppressions, intersectionality, marginalization and social identities.
